Types of service

8.45am Sunday Holy Communion

This service is a reflective Holy Communion Service we follow Jesus’ commandment at the Last Supper, to eat bread and drink wine in remembrance of him. This service is held on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays of the month, and rotates around the churches in the Parish. This is in contemporary language using Common Worship when the service is at Orsett or Bulphan and in traditional language when the service is at Horndon.

This service lasts approximately 30 minutes.

10am Family Service

Our Family Services are informal acts of worship for all ages and last approximately one hour. They are held on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at Orsett and Bulphan respectively. Baptisms sometimes take place in this service.  After the service we share fellowship and refreshments.

10am Parish Communion Service

At our Holy Communion Service, we follow Jesus’ commandment at the Last Supper, to eat bread and drink wine in remembrance of him. Everyone who is used to receiving Holy Communion at a Christian Church is welcome to receive the bread and wine here. If you do not wish to receive communion you can come to receive a blessing at the time of Communion. People of all ages are welcome at this service and we offer activities for our younger congregation members. A range of both hymns and more contemporary songs are sung at this service. Refreshments are served after the service.

10am All Together Holy Communion Service

This service which is similar in style to our Parish Communion Service but more informal.  It takes place on the first Sunday of each month and is held at Horndon, Orsett or Bulphan, in a rotating pattern.  ‘All Together’ means that it is the only service on that particular Sunday, to enable us all to gather together as one church community to worship God.   A range of both hymns and more contemporary songs are sung at this service.  It lasts approximately an hour and is followed by refreshments.

5th Sunday of the month

On the 5th Sunday of the month we hold an All Together Holy Communion Service at 10am and in the afternoon, at the same church, we hold an alternative kind of service, for example Songs of Praise, with hymns or songs chosen by congregation members, or, another style of service where we express or explore our worship and faith in a different way from the way we normally do. This service is held at Horndon, Orsett and Bulphan, in a rotating pattern. It lasts approximately an hour and is followed by refreshments.

4pm Refresh Service

This service takes place on the third Sunday of the month at 4pm at Horndon Church. It is an informal, contemporary service using a screen and modern worship songs. It lasts approximately an hour and is followed by refreshments.

Saturday 4pm Forest Church

Forest Church is outdoor church where we gather around a fire. It includes singing, a short Bible reading, fun activities and prayers and is suitable for all ages. This service is held on the first Saturday of the month and alternates between our three churches. You need to wear warm and waterproof clothes and bring something to sit on. It lasts approximately an hour and is followed by refreshments.

Tuesday Holy Communion Services

Our Tuesday Communion Services are held twice a month, on the second Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm at The Rectory, School Lane, Orsett and on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 12 noon following Open Church at Horndon.  This service last approximately half an hour.

There are no hymns or songs, but music is sometimes played.  All are welcome to come to this service.  

Holy Communion

Everyone who is used to receiving Holy Communion at a Christian Church is welcome to receive the bread and wine.  If you do not wish to receive communion you can come to receive a blessing at the time of Communion.  There is no compulsion to receive Communion or a blessing.
